Too heavy for a breakfast show?

I’ve always loved breakfast shows… they give you the news in short, digestible form, interviews with interesting people, as well as titbits of random, useful information on a number of subjects by resident experts  as you are getting dressed and having your breakfast.

Unfortunately, this year, PBS have changed the format of what used to be a very popular show. This season they decided to change direction completely and have gone for more hard news, politics and current affairs. Now,  this is not a bad idea in itself – but when it is not balanced by lighter subjects, it becomes rather too heavy to take at that time of day.

Despite the fact that I want and need to know what is happening because of my line of work, there is only so much I can take before I overdose on “deep” subjects.  Now if I feel like that, I wonder what the average viewer feels like?

There’s another thing: I have nothing against Pierre Portelli and Joe Mifsud, but I really think they should stop looking so glum and morose. Are they grumpy because they have to get up so early? Are they trying to project a “serious” no-nonsense image? Whatever it is, they really need to shake it off and try to smile more. I don’t always wake up in a good mood, so ideally, I would prefer to see welcoming, smiling faces when I switch on my TV.

So let me ask you…what do you think about the new PBS breakfast show?
