Over-exposed
I love my weekly fix of Deceduti, that zany comedy where ghosts are spying on the living, where henpecked Ramon whimpers whenever he sees Rose “the pitbull”, where Percival contorts his face into impossible expressions while pontificating in his Cockney (?) accent…and where, of course, the drama queen Gladys storms through life in a spectacular array of wigs and scathing put-downs.
So, why, why do the producers always feel the need to include the occasional cameo by media people whom we, frankly, see everywhere? There is such a thing as over-exposure you know. Last night Deceduti was infiltrated by none other than Peppi Azzopardi who was cast in the role of a celestial judge, complete with a huge white wig.
Yes, the question which is their company name Where’s Everybody? can now be genuinely replied to by answering…they’re everywhere.
Granted, it’s not his fault that the episode appeared precisely when he happens to have become the news rather than the one discussing it. But that’s exactly why media people need to be more selective in what they agree to appear in.
I saw this all the time in the world of newspapers and magazines where the same person would hit the front cover of all the glossies on the same exact Sunday. Now this is often done deliberately because the person wants to promote something, but if you want some free advice, it’s a terrible idea from a marketing point of view.
Do you know how many times I have heard people groan, “oh no! not him/her again?!” and then promptly throw the magazine into the waste paper basket.
So take it from me…less is more. If your ego cannot turn down each and every invitation then you should make sure you surround yourself with friends and family who have your best interest at heart, and who will brutally tell you: “Don’t do it. You’re over-exposed.”
