Malta Public Transport statement about bus strike

Malta Public Transport would like to express its disappointment with the General Workers’Union which went ahead with the strike despite the Company having honored the agreement reached in the past weeks. In fact, any and all deductions that were made in the payroll before 30 April were given back to the same employees. The Company re-extends its invitation to the Union to verify the Company’s records of its own accord even though no reply was received for a similar invitation made in the past days. Should the Union persist with refusing to accept this invitation and to continue with the strikes, the Company will have no alternative but to reverse the agreement that was reached on the 30 April.

The Company has this morning provided the minimum required 50% of the services, and sometimes more in some locations. In fact all localities were serviced with some routes being combined to maintain an overall acceptable level of service.

The Company would like to thank all its employees for their effort and for their cooperation in ensuring that an acceptable service is provided to its customers.

Finally, the Company would like to apologise to the public for the inconvenience that the strike action may have caused, and reassures them that it will continue to do its utmost to minimize the disruptions as much as possible.
