Red Electrick face the music at the Lido

Indie pop and rock band Red Electrick will be playing a foot-tapping live set at the Lido in Sliema on Wednesday 18 September. The five men that are Red Electrick will be strumming, drumming and crooning to raise funds for voluntary organisation FACES’ projects in Kenya and Tanzania.
FACES (VO/0151) was set up in Malta in 2003 with the aim of improving the quality of life of people who due to poverty, displacement and other adverse situations are unable to access vital services such as healthcare and education.
In Kenya, FACES funded the building of a new home (St Gorg Preca Home) for the orphans of St Joseph the Worker Parish. This orphanage was opened in October 2008 and currently houses 59 children aged seven to 23 years. FACES also coordinates a sponsorship programme for the orphanage’s residents financing their education fees, books and uniforms together with improvement
work to the orphanage.
In Tanzania, FACES has been collaborating with Cardinal Rugambwa Hospital (CRH) in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania since 2011. The voluntary organisation is working on a long-term collaborative capacity-building project with this medical establishment aimed at improving the level of medical care provided at CRH; improving the utilisation levels of hospital services; and improving the
accessibility of hospital services by the more underprivileged sections of the population.
To date, FACES has funded the buying of an ECG machine and provided relevant training for the hospital staff in its appropriate use, provided medical training in non-communicable diseases and contributed to the installation and implementation of a computerised medical records system.
Red Electrick describe their music as being inspired by the bluesy swagger of 1970s rock and punk’s needle-sharp guitar angst, the bittersweet skanked-up rhythms that the 2-tone era revelled in and an indie frame of mind. The band won Best Band and Best Song at this year’s Malta Music Awards.
Face the Music 3rd edition will be held at the Lido, Sliema on Wednesday 18 September. Doors open at 8 p.m. Entrance is by donation.
