The Farsons Foundation wants to further encourage Maltese press photographers to maintain the high technical and professional standards they have achieved, and further improve them. For this reason, the Foundation welcomes the proposal of the Institute of Maltese Journalists (IĠM) to renew the sponsorship of the press photography category of the Malta Journalism Awards (MJA).

This was stated by the President of The Farsons Foundation, Mr Bryan A. Gera, during the signing of the sponsorship agreement with the IĠM. Over the last 20 years, the Awards’ press photography category has developed into a veritable showcase of Maltese press photographers’ achievements.

Mr Gera said: “The sponsorship of the Press Photography category fulfils our Foundation’s mission statement ‘to encourage the various forms of Maltese art and culture’.”

IĠM Chairman Malcolm J. Naudi said: “The three finalist press photographers are Jonathan Borg, Matthew Mirabelli and Darrin Zammit Lupi. In every edition of the Malta Journalism Awards, the Press Photography category attracts the very best elements within the Maltese press photographic community. The standard is getting constantly better year on year.”

The winners of all categories of the 22^nd edition of the Malta Journalism Awards will be announced on Saturday, 5 May, 2012 at The Palace Hotel, Sliema.
