CUSP to play at St James Cavalier
Jazz trio CUSP will be giving a performance at the St James Cavalier Music Room, Valletta on Friday February 24th at 8 p.m. CUSP are Luke Briffa on drums, Alan Portelli on bass and Jes Psaila on guitar. They will play their own compositions as well as jazz standards with original arrangements. The performance will stray from traditional sounds and CUSP will work their eclectic choices and influences into a fresh, singular repertoire.
CUSP is new to the local scene, kicking off performances in September at Bridge Bar, Coach & Horses, and at the Mediterranean Literature Festival. The band members however are not newcomers.
Luke Briffa has been playing the drums for 7 years and is currently reading for a degree in drum performance and undergoing rhythmical studies with Prof. Massimo de Majo. His musical interests include jazz, ethnic and pop and has collaborated with bands like Recoil, Sixth Simfoni, Carrie Haber, Freddie Mizzi Big Band and Renzo Spiteri.
Alan Portelli has been playing bass since 2003 collaborating with bands playing different genres but with a particular focus on jazz. He has played with Recoil, Carrie Haber, No Bling Show, Sixth Simfoni and Marc Galea in his jazz quintet at the Malta Jazz Festival.
Jes Psaila has played guitar in diverse music projects, playing both acoustic and electric guitars in alternative rock to pop in unplugged sessions. He takes particular interest in projects with original music, including theatre productions, with jazz and improvisation remaining his favourite interests.
Tickets at €7 may be booked from St James Cavalier. More information on CUSP can be found on their Facebook page.
