Casa Antonia brings to life Pawlu Grech’s abstract paintings

A collection of paintings by Chevalier Maestro Pawlu Grech are on exhibition at Casa Antonia Nursing and Residential Home, in Balzan. Entitled REST-ROSPECTION and curated by Amanda Tabone, the exhibition of abstract paintings ranges from Pawlu Grech’s early works in the 1960s to more recent ones.

Commenting on the artist, musician and composer, Dr Silvio J. Camilleri said: “Grech is one of the few Maltese artists who embraced 20th century modernism. This characteristic is evident both in his music compositions and visual art. He can be classified among the forerunners of abstraction in Malta as shown by his paintings produced in the early 1960s.”

On welcoming the guests, Casa Antonia General Manager Dr Sarah Cassar said: “This is an extraordinary collection of paintings by one of our residents, Chev Maestro Pawlu Grech. We support initiatives like this and encourage our residents to continue to participate in the social and cultural life. Remaining active is important to enhance their quality of life while they enjoy the various good things this phase in life brings with it.”

Guests were also addressed by Balzan Mayor Dr Ian Spiteri. Pawlu’s former students, today established musicians and artists in their own right, were also present for the occasion.

The exhibition was inaugurated during an Open Day held as part of Casa Antonia’s 15th anniversary celebrations. Potential clients had the opportunity to visit the home, meet the dedicated caring team, and enjoy the beautiful ambiance of the home and entertaining activities.

REST-ROSPECTION is open for public viewing till 7th July 2018 at Casa Antonia, Pope Alexander VII Junction, Balzan, between 10am and 7pm.
