B’SOGĦBA KBIRA – new play by Simon Bartolo

Following the massive success of JIENA NĦOBB, INTI TĦOBB, ĦABBILNI ĦA NIRBAĦ, TIKBER U TINSA and B’TAL-LINJA JAQBILLEK ŻGUR, Simon Bartolo is back with his new theatre piece … B’SOGĦBA KBIRA!
B’SOGĦBA KBIRA is a dark and quirky comedy which revolves around the Ciappara family; a family that is “slightly” more eccentric than your dear, lovely neighbours!
Its family members are not what you might call normal. One of siblings mopes unhealthily on animals, another is the source of every rumour in your street, and yet another fiddles neurotically with her rosary beads in fervent prayer. And we haven’t started on the sibling obsessed with swords.

There is only one constant in this charismatic yet peculiar family: they hate each other’s guts.
When a sudden death takes the siblings by surprise, their antics are taken to a whole new level. And when the inheritance issue crops up …
“B’Sogħba Kbira pushes us to take each other with a pinch of salt and definitely less seriously,” says director Roderick Vassallo. “The dialogues are written with such a craft that I’m expecting the audience to naturally burst into laughter. Although superficially one can refer to this work as a farce, in reality I’m approaching it as an intelligent form of critique of the selfish condition of humans – obviously all wrapped up in jokes and a good dose of sarcasm.”

Directed by Roderick Vassallo and produced by Bakkanti Troupe, B’SOGĦBA KBIRA features Gilbert Formosa, Alison Abela, Olivia-Ann Marmara’, David Scicluna Giusti, Louise Fenech and Mandy Mifsud.

“Bakkanti comprises six friends so as you can imagine, the dynamics are just great,” says one of the actors Gilbert Formosa. “The only problem we have is that Simon’s script is so funny that we often end up in fits of laughter during rehearsals!”

The performance is in MALTESE.
