In a first ever initiative of its kind towards the end of September HSBC Malta organised a weekend golfing event at the Royal Malta Golf Club (RMGC).

HSBC is a worldwide promoter of golf through its Premier Golf Network and organises a number of events throughout the year aimed at giving Premier customers opportunities to develop their golfing skills and in the process enhancing customer experience.

The weekend kicked-off on Saturday at the RMGC Junior Academy where a number of HSBC Premier customers and their children received golf tips and training under the guidance of RMGC professionals.

The main event on the Sunday was the HSBC Premier Malta Golf Challenge, an individual four-ball stableford competition. The keenly contested event saw the participation of fifty two experienced golfers, who are also HSBC Premier customers.

During a well attended reception at the RMGC’s new attractively refurbished open-air terrace, trophies were presented to the winners by HSBC CEO Mark Watkinson. John Lewis won the competition scoring 39 points through a count-back on Violet Scott who placed second on the same score. Meanwhile, Alan Shaw achieved the nearest to pin on hole six.

“The HSBC Malta Premier Golf Challenge was closely contested and offered some great talent all round. To top it all, the incidence of fine weather made the tournament a truly unforgettable event.” said RMGC Captain David Debono. “We thank HSBC Malta for the support and assistance provided in organising such events. Furthermore, the expert advice given to Premier Customers and their children will hopefully contribute towards attracting new talent to the world of golf”.

HSBC Malta’s CEO Mark Watkinson, extended his heartfelt thanks and congratulated all participants in the two day initiative. “Besides supporting the game inMalta, HSBC is focused on helping to develop new talent through the junior golf academy,” said Mr Watkinson.

“HSBC sponsors golf all over the world, working with local communities, youth academies and in the organisation of international tournaments. Golf has an international appeal and this fits in perfectly within HSBC’s targeted objective in being the world’s leading international bank.”
