Josanne Cassar | Fresh faces, new talent

Since 1979, the MADC has been holding a One Act Play Festival at the clubroom theatre so as to encourage novice directors to produces a play of their choice and select a cast from a pool of aspiring actors, under the watchful eye of experienced members. Many of a current established actor and director started out their theatre carriers as winners of this festival.

The recently held 2011 Festival was yet another successful event run over 4 nights, judged by Colin Willis, Katherine Brown and Andre’ Delicata.

The award winners were:

Most Promising Actress – Ilenia Gatt

Most Promising Actor – Matthew Sant

Best Actress – Martina Buhagiar

Best Actor – Luke Mercieca

Best Director – Marta Vella for the play “Three Women”

Best Production – Martina Zammit for the play– “Bamboozel”

Besides the thrill and experience of performing to their peers, the final night was a social occasion for all participants, their families and friends to get together and party.
