Anonymous donor offers sponsorship to RIDT

An anonymous benefactor has donated funds to help a postgraduate student undertake a 3-year Ph.D. study scholarship in the Law of the Sea. This was announced today by the Research, Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT) of the University of Malta.

The scholarship will be awarded by the IMO International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI), following receipt of applications from eligible IMLI and the Law and the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies (MEDAC) graduates, and also from the University’s academic staff. Preference will be given to applications focussing on climate change. Submissions close on 15th February 2013.

Under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization, IMLI is a world recognised centre for the training of law graduates in international maritime law.

It also contributes to the development and dissemination of knowledge and expertise in international maritime law, with special reference to the international regulations and procedures for safety and efficiency of shipping and the prevention of marine pollution.

“This is indeed a noble gesture by a special individual. The University of Malta, would like to thank the anonymous donor for making this award possible, and invites affluent private individuals to follow this example as the whole Maltese society can benefit from a culture that promotes research and development as an economic tool,” said RIDT’s CEO Wilfred Kenely.

Candidates are asked to submit a copy of both the applicant’s degrees and the academic transcripts, together with a CV and a project proposal not exceeding 12,000 characters. Applications are to be addressed to The CEO, Research, Innovation and Development Trust, University of Malta, Valletta Campus, St. Paul’s Street, Valletta, VLT1216, Malta.

RIDT was established by the University of Malta to bolster investment in research and development on a national level. As the University expands its sphere of research projects, it is increasingly becoming more reliant on patronage and sponsorships from private and corporate bodies.
