Over the last few years there has been a marked increase in women occupying managerial posts within HSBC BankMalta. Studies show that countries with greater numbers of females in managerial roles tend to be more successful overall. Banking on Women (BoW) President Pauline Azzopardi said this during the 11th BoW Annual Group Meeting, held recently at the Hilton.
BoW is a voluntary female association within HSBC BankMaltap.l.c. which actively supports women in realising their career ambitions within the bank as well as other life goals.
Ms Azzopardi spoke about the life-work challenges facing career women today, with an emphasis on the strengths of having women in decision-making roles. This was followed by an overview of BoW’s main activities held in 2011 which included Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) lectures, Parenting Skills Courses, social networking and cultural events amongst others.
Some BoW events are also open to all HSBC employees, including non-members and males, offering valuable networking opportunities for BoW members to strengthen their support networks, create new opportunities, and build more satisfying careers.
The meeting was followed by dinner at the Hilton’s Oceana restaurant, during which BoW presented a gift to Grace Attard, twice president of the National Council of Women Malta in recognition of her award of the Medal for Service to the Republic – Midalja Ghall-Qadi tar-Repubblika’ – and for her long-term commitment towards the promotion of gender equality.
Thanks went out to the activity sponsors: HSBC Bank Malta plc, Victor Azzopardi Jewellers, Hilton Malta Hotel, Miriam Ciantar – The Principal to the Malta College of Make-Up, and HSBC colleague Mary Louise Agius for donating hand made jewellery raffled off during the event.
