Malta: A Story of sea and stone

Joe Demanuele is the first Maltese photographer to be exhibiting his photographs at the Gemeenschapscentrum which is the Cultural Centre of the Flemish Community in Brussels. The exhibition is entitled: Malta: A Story of Sea and Stone. All the photographs are of Maltese and Gozitan Landscapes – showcasing the beauty of the Maltese islands to the people of Belgium.  Many Belgians know very little about our country and this exhibition is one way of filling this void as there is much scope for improvement in the tourist market from Belgium. In this exhibition Belgians can see the natural splendour of our motherland.

The exhibition was opened on 14 October by the President of the Assembly of the Flemish Community Commission together with H.E. Pierre Clive Agius Maltese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgiumand Didier Coomans Chairman of GC Kontakt.

The exhibition has attracted the attention of Brussels TV, many cultural magazines and websites which showcase cultural activities in Brussels. Schools which have visited the exhibition have led to groups of students planning visits to Malta. The exhibition will later tour other cities like Ghent and Antwerp.

When Joe Demanuele speaks of his landscape photography he says “ I have to be in a special frame of mind to produce what in retrospect I see as a good landscape photo and even years later each of my landscapes reminds me of the emotions that I had felt while taking that particular shot. I have taken part in many collective and even a few individual exhibitions and it is always a great satisfaction to see that other people feel something when they view my photos, maybe something that I felt myself while taking them.”

Sponsors include: Air Malta, Corinthia, NSTS andMTA
