Carols by Candlelight

Preparations are under way for the 9th Edition of Carols by Candlelight organised by the Schola Cantorum Jubilate, a youth choir which has established itself with the top choirs in Malta.

This event exerts a lot of sacrifices from all those involved who work voluntarily to present a highly professional event, one of those which is hardly to forget. Those who work on the scenography at the church and the cloister do it on voluntary basis. As in most productions these are people who working hard and whose work is vital to hold such events. The artistic director, Fr. Joseph Bajada is in charge of all this work where creativity, innovation and precision are required.  Surely it is not the work to earn a living from but it is done from the heart, for a good cause and with the possibility of expressing one’s talents and focusing on a particular theme with all goals set in one direction.
On the other hand, the choristers, musicians and soloists are preparing themselves to produce Christmas music which can transport the listeners into another world, the mysterious world which brings along many questions regarding the mystery and miracle of life but at the same time fills one’s heart with the joy each birth brings around.
Carols by Candlelight will be held on Friday 9 December and Saturday 10 December at St. Augustine’s Monastery in Victoria Gozo. It consists of a Christmas concert followed by a gala dinner prepared by the award-winning Chefs of Ta’ Frenc Restaurant.  All proceeds will be forwarded to Ä użeppa Debono Home which caters for single mothers by offering various life-skills, humanistic courses and help them embrace their newborns and together face the challenges in life.
The repertoire of these soirées includes various popular pieces for Christmas: Adeste Fidelis, Silent Night, The First Noel and Joy to the World. Director and soprano Marouska Attard will interpret Adam’s famous Holy Night which is a must for this concert. Soprano Attard will join Bass Albert Buttigieg in a duet Hidden as a Baby.  The latter will also interpret Wonder as I Wander composed by John Jacob Niles.
As it was mentioned earlier above this production relies on many volunteers. However, it would not be possible to hold such a high calibre events without the support of the Ministry for Gozo, the Secretariat Parliamentary for Consumers, Fair Competition, Local Councils and Public Dialogue, the Malta Tourism Association and other private entities.
