New culinary programme on PBS to promote different cultures

On the occasion of International Migrants Days SOS Malta have launched the Media InterAct project.
Launching the project were Ms Claudia Taylor-East (Director of SOS Malta); Ms Maria Muscat (Public Broadcasting Services – PBS); Mr Joe Vella  (Institute of Maltese Journalists – IGM), as well as two third-country nationals currently living in Malta, Ms Asmaa Saleh and Mr Laiq Ahmed Atif (President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Malta).
One of the projects is the production of a 13-episode lifestyle/culinary TV programme called Minn Lenti Interkulturali aimed at promoting intercultural dialogue, interaction and exchange through the sharing of culinary experiences and traditions of third-country nationals in Malta and their simultaneous account of their integration experiences. These 13 programmes are being produced by PBS and will be aired on TVM and E22 in January, February and March 2012.
The project will also pilot the issuing of a special edition magazine in 2012 which will be dedicated to integration. Media InterAct will then conclude with a multi-stakeholder networking conference in 2012 that will bring together various actors to discuss the role of the media in facilitating the integration of third-country nationals in Malta. Following this, Media InterAct will publish a set of final recommendations related to the mainstreaming of integration and diversity into media policies in Malta.
