Blue-violet light: A health threat hiding in plain sight

Blue light illuminates today’s digital world, from smartphones to household lighting. One relies on blue light to live, work, and play, but along with the advantages of blue light come some serious health concerns. As the indoor world has changed, health professionals are increasingly recommending that people of all ages protect their eyes from excessive blue-violet light exposure.

Zeiss DuraVision BlueProtect is specially designed for people who spend a good deal of time in front of their computer, television or tablet, or are frequently exposed to LED (light-emitting diode) and CFL (compact fluorescent light) lighting. The advanced light-filtering system of BlueProtect blocks a significant amount of the most harmful blue-violet light and provides enhanced protection from potential damage to the eye.

Adrienne Despott, General Manager at TUACO Opticians explains: “Damaging blue-violet light can be found everywhere and, the more one is exposed to it, the greater the risk of eye damage. Like invisible UV radiation, exposure to blue-violet light can affect both eyes and health in general. When buying glasses, we always recommend our clients to include protection coating on lenses to minimise the risk.”

As from Monday 2nd May, Zeiss BlueProtect Coating will be offered for free with every purchase of Zeiss lenses. This special coating is normally offered at an extra charge of €60 per pair of lenses.

“For those persons who are constantly using technology, be it for work or leisure, there has never been a better time to invest in high quality eye protection,” she added.

Zeiss lenses and Zeiss DuraVision BlueProtect can be found at TUACO Opticians, Melita Street, or St John Street, both in Valletta. For further information or to book an appointment, one can call TUACO Opticians on tel: 2122 1848, email tuaco.opt@gmail.com or visit www.TUACO.com/.
