As 2018 comes to an end, sister duo The New Victorians have just released their brand new single ‘Me & You’. This song sees the girls going back to their roots, with a more acoustic guitar and piano-heavy sound, with the electronic element of their Silence EP. Launching with a music video on the 5th December, the track was produced by The New Victorians and Howard Keith, and mixed and mastered by Jagged House Productions, in collaboration with Fino.
The girls described ‘Me & You’ as “the perfect moody winter tune for rainy winter days.” Philippa wrote the song while living in Glasgow with a good friend of hers, who was going through a tough time whilst her mother battled cancer. This friend was Maxine Aquilina from Jays of Sunshine, who has just turned her situation into something beautiful.
“…but this was written at a time when it wasn’t yet. It’s really just a song about feeling helpless when people you love are hurting, and acknowledging that sometimes all you can offer is to be with them in silence.” Philippa describes the first time she played the song in public “…Maxine and I both ended up welling up because of all that was going on. Now, two short years later, I sent her the track on the day she launched the most amazing organisation that will accompany children through similarly tough times at the Rainbow Ward at Mater Dei. It just makes me so freaking proud!”
After living in separate cities for two years, Bettina and Philippa reunited in October 2017 and have worked tirelessly on project after project ever since. Kicking off their new season with a Zaar Crowdfunding Campaign last November the girls were able to release their Music Video Trilogy, Silence, last April, which included radio hit Lie Liar. 2018 saw the sisters opening for Anastacia on her Evolution tour; performing a number of gigs including Farson’s Beer Festival, Sound Salon, ALS Concert Valletta, Women In Music and Hugo’s Terrace Goes Live; as well as vocal coaching on X Factor, whilst writing and producing tracks for other artists.
2019 is going to be an exciting year for the duo with performances planned for London, Scotland and Malta in the upcoming months. “We’re currently working on our original, audio theatrical piece with its own original songs and soundtrack, MARA. We also have a Maltese reimagined classic that we wish to release in the coming months.”
