Bay Street, Malta’s leading shopping, dining, leisure and entertainment centre in St George’s Bay, St Julian’s, officially inaugurated a major refurbishment of the fashion offering on Level 2 on 28 October, 2015, with a reception.
Among the distinguished guests hosted by the owners, directors and managers of Bay Street were Spanish Ambassador José Pons, the Parliamentary Secretary for Competitiveness and Economic Growth Dr José Herrera and Mrs Herrera, several leading business partners and clients.

The newly refurbished Retail Lounge on Level 2 has as its focus two new openings:  Cortefiel, a front-runner of the Spanish retail industry with stores all over the world, and a sister brand from the same Grupo Cortefiel, the well-known underwear brand –women’s secret. A major development saw the consolidation of the Bortex outlets in a new 740 m2 flagship store as well as the new look-and-feel of the popular lingerie brand, Piccinino.
The mega Bortex store brings together the Gagliardi brand of Bortex, its own manufacturing line plus two other internationally renowned designer brands, Lacoste and Gant.

Grupo Cortefiel owes its origins to a humble haberdasher’s shop which the brothers Felipe and Rufino García Quirós inherited in Madrid in 1880. Over the next 40 years the shops expanded to three under the name Almacenes Quirós.
The family changed the name to Cortefiel, meaning the fine cut, in 1946, as a testimony to their state-of-the art fine tailoring. One of its most successful products was the trenchcoat and the one worn by the character of the popular TV series Colombo was actually made by Cortefiel.

The brand became a watchword for quality traditional outfits targeting men and women with a youthful outlook on life and an open, enquiring mind. Among its other celebrity clients were US President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Today Cortefiel is present in 29 countries with 393 directly operated stores and franchises. Through its collections, the brand invites customers to discover a fashion alternative offering quality and fabulous styles. Cortefiel boasts the latest looks and comfort for people who see the world through today’s eyes.

Women’s secret was first launched in 1993 and, just over 20 years later, is Spain’s leading female underwear, lingerie and swimwear brand.
