Vodafone celebrated another first on 12th June when its employees walked, ran, cycled, trekked and kayaked their way across the Maltese islands covering 85km in just one day. This event, the Vodafone Malta Cross Country Challenge 2015, was held as part of the company’s 25th Anniversary celebrations. This was the first cross-country race of its type and length ever to be held in Malta.

The Challenge kicked off in Gharb in Gozo in the early morning and ended in Marsaxlokk, via Comino, in the afternoon. Ten teams participated  made up of athletes who tackled an individual leg, or more, and a support team in cars who navigated the routes and provided nutritional support. The winning team, led by Luan Vella, completed the race in 7 hours.

‘The challenge of this event was not just the day itself’ said Christian Briffa, a member of the winning team, ‘but really started the moment this challenge was announced when  we had to pick our teams, decide which participant would do best in what and coordinate all the logistics. However it was a challenge definitely worth tackling and we’re already looking forward to the next one!’

Apart from the 200 employees who participated directly in the Challenge, over 20 other employees provided support throughout the day as marshalls and officials, making this a truly company-wide event.
