Christmas Baroque Music for Teatime at The Oratory

The RIDT teatime concert series entitled The Oratory: Music and Art, presents A Christmas Baroque on Sunday 28 December at 4.30pm at The Oratory of the Jesuit Church, in Valletta.

The St James Consort will be performing seasonal music from baroque composers, all contemporaries of Antonio Vivaldi, who were inspired by the traditional pastoral music of the shepherds used during the celebrations of the Nativity in Northern Italy.

The  programme features Concerto Noel Allemand by Corrette, Sinfonia a tre op 1, 12 per il Santissimo Natale by Valentini, Sinfonia Pastorale per il Santissimo Natale op 2 No 12 by Manfredini, and Sinfonia Patorale per il Santissimo Natale by Ferrandini.

Led by Sarah Spiteri, the St James Consort is made up of energetic and enthusiastic musicians, a healthy mix of established and new talent. The Consort gave its first concert in October 2006, through the launch of a series of concerts held at St. Catherine of Italy Church, presenting popular and less familiar baroque works. To date their repertoire includes the standard works by the Baroque masters, whilst also performing newly commissioned compositions by up and coming Maltese composers.

Proceeds from The Oratory:Music and Art are aimed at raising funds for research activities within the University, via its Research Trust (RIDT). No booking is required and entrance to The Oratory is from Archbishop Street. There is a suggested donation of €10.
