“Children of a lesser God” by Theatrencore

‘Children of a Lesser God’ is possibly one of the most well-known films of the 1980s. Theatrencore will be staging the theatrical version. The play relates the love story that develops between a deaf girl and her speech therapist. Like most other love stories, the relationship kicks off with a honeymoon period. But as soon as the lovers get married, problems arise. The deaf girl insists that people around her need to use sign language to communicate with her, and she refuses categorically to speak. This leads to marital tension.

This is the first play in Malta that is going to be accessible to the deaf community because of the use of sign language in the play. However, the play can be understood totally by anyone, even without the knowledge of sign language. The design of the set is in the hands of Adrian Mamo, whereas Michael Quinton is in charge of the sound design. All senses, particularly the sense of smell, will be used to give the audience a full experience of the action of the play. The main roles have been entrusted to Charles Sammut and Sharon Bezzina, who are supported by Joseph Zammit, Mariella Muscat, Stefan Farrugia, Monica Attard and Alexandra Camilleri Warne.

This production is being directed by Tyrone Grima and will be staged at the Blue Box Theatre, M Space,  Msida on the 1st and 2nd May. This project is supported by the Malta Arts Fund.
