HSBC UK Contact Centre Malta (HBEU) continues to attract the best talent in Malta looking for a creative and dynamic work environment that goes beyond the traditional recognition of number of hours of work.
At the bustling Contact Centre in Swatar, longstanding staff speak highly of their career ascendency, and are quick to declare that when it comes to recognising ambition and rewarding hard work HBEU truly walks the walk.
“The Centre has offered me an unmatched chance of progression. I started on the phones as a customer service representative (CSR) and, in just four years, I worked my way up to become a trainer,” says Ben Murphy, who now imparts knowledge he gained as a Skills Trainer.
“The fact that HBEU offers training to all new recruits by people like me, who are not just familiar with the need of the business but also with the needs of newcomers, is truly a rewarding experience for all.
“I know how they feel because I have been there myself,” adds Murphy.
Yet for the majority of staff at HBEU, the most fascinating thing about the Contact Centre remains the diversity of thoughts and ideas that they encounter on a daily basis.
“The most standout feature of working here is the positive changes you experience so frequently. No two days are alike at HBEU. No matter how long you have worked here, you continue to encounter new experiences,” says Louiseanne Gauci, a Team Manager.

Established at Swatar in 2006 with a target of 250 employees, the superior customer services delivered by the Centre have – over the last nine years – resulted in developing the Centre which now employs 430 employees assisting UK account holding customers. “I chose HSBC as it was my first full time job after I finished my studies and wanted to base my career around banking. I saw an advertisement in the newspaper about new career opportunities and I thought to myself ‘It would be a secure job with a worldwide bank, definitely not an opportunity to be missed!’ says Gauci.

“If you look at my career trajectory at HBEU, it has simply been up and up. From CSR and sales representative in 2007 to being a Senior CSR and sales executive in 2011, followed by Deputy Team Leader by 2013, and now as a Team Manager, the journey has been truly remarkable and fulfilling,” she adds.
For others though, HBEU is a place that embodies more than employment.

“I grew up here,” notes PPI Manager Dan Zammit, “I joined when I was 18 and this year I will be nearing nine years here. I was in the catering industry before coming and was looking for a job where I could progress and, at the same time, be valued and appreciated.”
“I never thought I would move up so quickly through the ranks. I remember saying in my first meeting that I want to be a Team Leader in five years. I became a team leader within two years. From there on, I progressed even quicker,” adds Zammit.
