Discrimination against MDA

A meeting was called today of the Parliamentary Committee on the Environment and Planning so that this committee can hear the positions of NGOs on the bill published on Friday, 3 July, 2015.

The Malta Developers Association attended the meeting despite not being invited. This despite the fact that the MDA is a registered NGO and it had to be invited like other NGOs. During the meeting most of the NGOs invited were each given 10 minutes to make their interventions and sometimes even more. Persons and individuals who received an invitation were also given 10 minutes each to express their interests.
In the second part of the meeting, individuals who attended without receiving an invitation were given the opportunity to speak, and it was at this stage that the MDA was given an opportunity to make its intervention of only two minutes and immediately stopped by the chairman.
It is unacceptable that the MDA should be treated in this way in a democratic society when dealing with a subject that is of such vital importance to the MDA, which is the only voice of the construction and real estate industry.
